The province of Kushanshar was located at the eastern edge of theSasanian Empire.

Kushanshahr was a province of theSasanian Empire comprising the region betweenKabul Valley andPeshawar Valley.[1] The Kushanshar territory centered onTukharistan, and covered the area fromTirmidh toPeshawar.[1] The establishment of Sasanian rule in Kushanshar permitted the control ofCentral Asian trade routes.[1] TheKushano-Sasanids were in charge of the area. They issued coinage which was following theKushan standard, due to the traditional importance of trade links withIndia.[1]

Kushanshahr was a pendant toEranshahr to the West, which was the cradle of the Sasanian Empire.

Sasanian rule ended in Kushanshahr when the area was overrun by theKidarites and then theHephthalites.[1].
