Kurt Klaus Kleinschmidt (born 7 February 1967) is a former German military officer and a politician from theAlternative for Germany (AfD).
Kleinschmidt hails fromBavaria and now lives inNorth Friesland.[1] A former soldier, he had a military career including being stationed inKosovo andAfghanistan.[2][3] On 1 April 2022 Kleinschmidt became an armed forces reservist in theGerman armed forces.[2] On 27 August 2022, he was elected chairman ofAlternative for Germany inSchleswig-Holstein.[4] In theSchleswig-Holstein state election in May 2022, the party had lost all their seats.[5] In the 2023 local elections, Kleinschmidt was a candidate for North Friesland and Leck.[6]
On 3 November 2024, Kleinschmidt was selected as thetop candidate inSchleswig-Holstein in the2025 German federal election.[7] With 51 percent of the votes, party delegates elected Kleinschmidt to first place on thestate list for the federal election.[8] In the election he was elected.[9]
