Kurt Jara (born 14 October 1950) is an Austrianfootball manager and former player who played as amidfielder.
Born inInnsbruck, Jara started his professional career with local sideFC Wacker Innsbruck before moving to Spanish outfitValencia CF in 1973. After two seasons inLa Liga he joined GermanBundesliga teamMSV Duisburg where he spent five seasons[1] and reached theUEFA Cup semi-finals in 1979. After another season in Germany withFC Schalke 04, he finished his career in theSwiss Super League withGrasshoppers. Immediately after retiring as a player, he became manager at Grasshopper.
Jara made his debut forAustria in a July 1971 friendly match inSão Paulo againstBrazil and was a participant at the1978 and1982World Cups. He earned 59 caps, scoring 14 goals.[2] His last international was an April 1985 World Cup qualification match againstHungary.
As a manager, Jara coached in the past the Swiss clubsGrasshoppers,FC St. Gallen andFC Zürich, the Austrian team VfB Mödling,Xanthi,APOEL,FC Tirol Innsbruck,Hamburger SV and1. FC Kaiserslautern. In the season 2005–06 he was the manager ofRed Bull Salzburg.
