66°28′01″N87°10′16″E / 66.467°N 87.171°E /66.467; 87.171Kureika (Russian:Куре́йка) is a Russian village just north of theArctic Circle nearTurukhansk inKrasnoyarsk Krai, by the confluence ofKureika River andYenisey.[citation needed]

HereJoseph Stalin spent his final exile in 1914–1916. In 1938 theStalin museum in Kureika [ru] was established. In 1952 apavilion was built surrounding and preserving theizba (wooden hut) Stalin had lived in during his exile. The museum was closed and hut was demolished, along with Stalin's statue, duringde-Stalinization in 1961, and the pavilion was burnt in a fire in 1996.[1]
