KurdishShahnameh orKurdish Shanama (Sorani Kurdish:شانامەی کوردی) is a collection ofepic poems that has been passed from mouth to mouth, as part ofKurdish oral tradition.[1][2] In popular culture, the collection and writing of Shahnama inGorani is attributed to the Kurdish poetSarhang Almas Khan in the eighteenth century, but in reality many writers have gathered and written down the text of Shahnama in different locations and times.[3] In fact, older and more recent manuscripts of the KurdishShahnameh are available.[4] There are several differences between the KurdishShahnameh andFerdowsi'sShahnameh, notably the poems of the former are written inKurdish rather thanPersian and there are several characters that are not mentioned in Ferdowsi'sShahnameh. Furthermore, the meter of Kurdish Shahnama is syllabic, which is more common in theKurdish literature.Shahram Nazeri has sung several verses of the KurdishShahnameh inAvaze Asatir.
