Qońırat, also spelled asKungrad[2] (Karakalpak: Қоңырат,Qońırat), formerly known asZheleznodorozhny (Russian:Железнодорожный, until 1969), is a city inKarakalpakstan,Uzbekistan, located in theAmu Daryadelta[2] on the left bank of the river. It is the seat ofQońırat district.[3] Its population was 37,100 in 2016.[1]
In the past it was the centre of caravan routes leading to theCaspian Sea and the Uralsk province.[2]
