Kumar Varun is an Indian stand-up comedian,^[2] actor, writer and quizmaster. He is known for his roles in the comedy sketches ofAll India Bakchod, as the co-founder of the comedy collective Random Chikibum, which won theOML Comedy Hunt.^[3] He has featured in both seasons of the comedy webseriesAmazon Prime Video'sChacha Vidhayak Hain Hamare.^[4]

Born in 1985, Kumar mostly grew up in middle class Brahmin pandeyJamshedpur,Bokaro,Deoghar andArrah. At age twelve he moved toDelhi and studied at Sarla Chopra DAV Centenary Public School, Noida. He completed his engineering in biotechnology degree fromShanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy, Tanjore in 2008. Varun marriedMaanvi Gagroo on 23 February 2023.^[5]

Before committing to stand up in 2017, Kumar worked as an engineer atTCS in Delhi from 2008-2011. He earned an MBA in Marketing atFMS, Delhi from 2011-2013. He worked as a brand manager inMahindra Group andDBS Bank.^[6] During this time he met Rahul Subramanian, with whom he found the comedy collective Random Chikibum and won theOML Comedy Hunt judged byAIB and hosted byBiswa Kalyan Rath in 2016.^[7]

Varun wrote and acted in the 7-episode mini seriesRandom Daftar along with Rahul Subramanian. The same year he appeared as Atul Naak in four episodes of Sumukhi Suresh's sketch seriesBehti Naak.

In 2017 he rose to popularity with his role as Failure Mehta inHonest Campus Placements.^[8] He played the role of Professor Kodoth inLaakhon Main Ek.^[9]

Between 2017-2020 Kumar took roles across web series and shorts including Anirban in Better Life Foundation,^[10] Kranti in both seasons ofAmazon Prime Video'sChacha Vidhayak Hain Hamare, Babloo inDisneyPlus Hotstar'sPariWar^[11] and the titular Buddhaditya Das inMr. Das. In 2019 he released his first stand up video on YouTube which garnered more than 5.5 million views.^{[citation needed]}

In 2022 Kumar Varun alongsideTanmay Bhat,Richa Chadda,Gopal Datt,Vijay Varma appeared in two seasons ofFarzi Mushaira.^[12] He featured in an ad by ManMatters as part of their #LetsTalkMan campaign.^[13]

During the pandemic, Kumar Varun hosted online quizzing tournaments with fellow comedians and other actors and writers under the title ofKvizzing With The Comedians.^[14] Since July 2020, 14 such tournaments were conducted by Varun, which gained over 100 million views on YouTube.
