Kronokotherium is an extinctherbivorousmarine mammal of thefamilyDesmostylidae in theorderDesmostylia.
Its type locality isRaktinskaya,Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia (55°00′N161°36′E / 55.0°N 161.6°E /55.0; 161.6, paleocoordinates55°42′N163°00′E / 55.7°N 163.0°E /55.7; 163.0).[2]
Kronokotherium was made a separategenus because the specimen differs fromDesmostylus in the arrangement of the majormolar cusps and its smaller size,[3] but it has been synonymized withDesmostylus by most authors.[1]
