Krithi Shetty (born 21 September 2003)[1] is an Indian actress who primarily works inTelugu andTamil films. Shetty is an recipient of aFilmfare Award South and aSIIMA Award. She made her acting debut in the Telugu filmUppena (2021) which won her theFilmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South.[2]

Early life

Krithi Shetty was born on 21 September 2003 inMangalore, Karnataka,[3] to aTulu-speakingBunt family.[4][5][6] Her father is a businessman, and her mother is a fashion designer.[3][7] She was brought up in Mumbai.[citation needed] During her academic career, she worked in commercials.[6]

Career

Shetty made her debut in a lead role, aged 17, with theTelugu filmUppena[8] directed by Buchi Babu Sana and produced byMythri Movie Makers andSukumar Writings. The film was commercially successful at the box office, collecting over₹100crore (US$12 million).[9]The Times of India's Neeshitha Nyayapati wrote, "The debutants Vaisshnav and Krithi manage to pull off the intricacies of their characters well for the most part.[10]

Later that year, she appeared in the Telugu filmShyam Singha Roy oppositeNani.[11]Shyam Singha Roy received mixed to positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success grossing over ₹60 crore at the box office.[12] She next starred inBangarraju oppositeNaga Chaitanya. Bangarraju emerged as a successful film and grossed over ₹66 crore.[13] This was followed by a series of commercial failures in the latter half of 2022 and 2023 with her next filmThe Warriorr, directed byN.Lingusamy where she appeared oppositeRam Pothineni received negative reviews from critics and became acommercial failure.[14] Her next release in the same year was the Telugu filmMacherla Niyojakavargam, directed by M. S. Rajashekhar Reddy[15] opened to negative reviews and failed at the box office.[16]

Her last release of 2022 wasAa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali which was directed byMohana Krishna Indraganti where she co-starred withSudheer Babu,[17][18] opened to mixed reviews and became a commercial failure at the box office.[19] She then made her Tamil-language debut in 2023 withVenkat Prabhu's bilingualCustody (2023) co-starringNaga Chaitanya.[20]Custody opened to mixed reviews and did not do well at the box office.[21]

In 2024, she starred inManamey alongsideSharwanand and although the film opened to mixed reviews, it became a commercial success at the box office.[22]
