Krishna Kumar (born 12 June 1968) is an Indian actor and politician who appears inMalayalam-language films and television, in addition to a fewTamil-language films.

Early life

Krishna Kumar was born on 12 June 1968 inThiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. He is the youngest son of Gopalakrishnan Nair and Retnamma. He came from a family who had served in theIndian military. Kumar was also preparing to join the military before he got an offer to work as anews presenter forDoordarshan.[1]

Career

Kumar had received his first acting offer whilst working as a televisionnews presenter inDoordarshan. Kumar played a role in a 13-episode serial produced forDD Malayalam. He portrayed actorNedumudi Venu's son, in his acting debut. DD Malayalam was the onlyMalayalam channel at that time. WhenAsianet was launched, Kumar starred in a TVsoap opera titledSthree (1998–2000) starringSiddique andVinaya Prasad, Kumar became the serial's lead actors after Siddique shifted to films and left the show. The show was a major succes and was a breakthrough for him.[2]

He was supposed to make his film debut in 1993 with theJoshiy-directorialSainyam, in which he was to play a naval officer, but his scenes were deleted from the film. To make up for it, Joshiy offered him the chance todub forVikram's character in the film. However, he was ousted from the dubbing studio after not possessing a dubbing artists' card from their guild.[3] He eventually debuted with the 1994Malayalam filmKashmeeram. In the coming years, he acted in several Malayalam films and TV serials. He would later go onto to act in Tamil films such asBilla II,Deivathirumagal, andMugamoodi among others.[4][5]

Politics

Krishna Kumar officially joined theBharatiya Janata Party in February 2021[6] and was the party'scandidate fromThiruvananthapuram constituency for the2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election.[7] He lost along with his other counterparts. On 5 October 2021 he was elected as a member to the BJP national council from Kerala.

Personal life

Krishna Kumar met his future wife Sindhu during his time presenting forDoordarshan. They married on 12 December 1994 at the Trivandrum Club inThiruvananthapuram.

They have four daughters includingAhaana Krishna, Ishaani Krishna[8] (both actresses), Diya Krishna and Hansika Krishna. Sindhu is an entrepreneur and runs an advertisement agency.[9][10][11]
