Radhakrishna "Krish" Jagarlamudi (born 10 November 1978) is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works predominantly inTelugu cinema in addition toHindi andTamil films. He has earned numerous accolades throughout his career including aNational Film Award and twoFilmfare Awards South.

Krish began his career in 2008 with theroad filmGamyam and followed it up with thehyperlink filmVedam in 2010, both of which gained critical acclaim and big accolades. In 2015, he helmed the periodwar dramaKanche set inNazi Germany, which won theNational Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu.[2]

His other notable films includeVaanam (2011),Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum (2012),Gabbar Is Back (2015),Gautamiputra Satakarni (2017) andManikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi (2019).[3][4] In 2019, he also directed the back-to-back filmed biographical dramasNTR: Mahanayakudu andNTR: Kathanayakudu and in 2020 he started filming a historical fiction movie of an outlawHari Hara Veera Mallu withPawan Kalyan. He is Collaborating withAnushka Shetty for her 50th FilmGhaati, they previously worked inVedam andVaanam.

Early life

Krish Jagarlamudi was born on 10 November 1978 inGuntur, Andhra Pradesh, India.[5] He completed his higher education in theUnited States in pharmacy and computer science, and briefly worked there. He returned to India to pursue a full-time career in thefilm industry.[6]

Career

In 2008, Krish Jagarlamudi made his debut withGamyam, starringAllari Naresh,Sharwanand, andKamalinee Mukherjee. The film was produced by his father, Saibabu Jagarlamudi, along with his brother-in-law, Bibo Srinivas, and his friend, Rajeev Reddy, who came forward after Krish tried to convince many notable film producers. The film went on to become a big hit at the box office, and won several awards, including theBest Picture andBest Director awards at the2009 South Filmfare Awards. It gained a cult status and is considered by many to be one of the greatest films in Telugu ever made.[7][8]

Krish's next film,Vedam (2010) is anthology starringAllu Arjun,Anushka Shetty andManoj Manchu. It was well received by both critics and the audience, winning four major awards at the58th Filmfare Awards South, with Krish receiving his secondFilmfare Award for Best Director.[9]Vedam was also the second film to win all the four major awards (Best Movie, Best Director for Krish, Best Actor for Allu Arjun and Best Actress for Anushka Shetty), afterJeevana Jyothi in 1975 and had a good run at the box office as well.

Following the success ofVedam, Krish was signed on to direct its Tamil remake, titledVaanam, starringSilambarasan Rajendar,Bharath, andAnushka Shetty, reprising her role.[10] Like its original version,Vaanam too released to critical acclaim.[11] His next film isKrishnam Vande Jagadgurum (2012) starringRana Daggubati andNayantara. Krish made his Hindi debut film withGabbar Is Back (2015). It starsAkshay Kumar,Kareena Kapoor andShruti Haasan.

HisWorld war II war directorial starringVarun Tej namedKanche, released on 22 October, on the occasion ofDasara. It received positive reviews from critics and was successful at the box office.[12]Kanche was selected for theIndiwood Panorama Competition section at the 2nd edition ofIndiwood Carnival 2016 inHyderabad.[13] He next directedNandamuri Balakrishna's 100th film,Gautamiputra Satakarni (2017), based on emperorGautamiputra Satakarni. The film was commercially successful.[14]

Krish, next started directingManikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, then after with the personal request ofNandamuri Balakrishna, Krish collaborated with Balakrishna once again for theNTR duology, based on the life ofN. T. Rama Rao. Both the parts,NTR: Kathanayakudu andNTR: Mahanayakudu, were critical and commercial failures.[15]
