Kripamayee Kali TempleKripamôyee Kali Môndir), commonly known asJoy Mitra Kalibari,Jôy Mitrô Kalibari ), is aHindu temple dedicated to goddessKali, located on the eastern banks ofHooghly river atBaranagar inKolkata, in theIndian state ofWest Bengal.[1]
The temple was built in 1848 by Jai Narayan Mitra, a famouszamindar and a devotee of Kali.[2] Mitra bought 3 bighas plot from one Mr. James and founded the temple.[3] The presiding deity of the temple isKripamayee ("She who is merciful"), a form ofKali. It is a colossalnabaratna (nine-spired) temple with twelve shrines dedicated toShiva, Kali's consort.[4]
