Kothapet is a major commercial and residential suburb ofHyderabad, inTelangana state ofIndia located around a strip ofNH65. It belongs to Maheshwaram constituency ofRanga Reddy district.
Kothapet village was a gram panchayat until the passage of Government Order by the erstwhileAndhra Pradesh government wherein it was absorbed into theHyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority region thereby subsuming the municipality into the municipal corporation.[2] The merger of the village into the municipality was challenged subsequently in a petition to theTelangana High Court, but the challenge was quashed due to lack ofmerit.[3]
Kothapet houses one of largest fruit markets[4] in the state of Telangana, and is an upcoming real estate destination.[5] Owing to the congestion due to local businesses, it was proposed that the market inGaddiannaram be shifted toKoheda.[6]
The locality is served byTSRTC bus stops and Chaitanyapuri Metro Station of theHyderabad Metro Rail Red Line Corridor.[7]
