TheKomańcza Republic,[a] also known as theEastern Lemko Republic,[b]Vyslik Republic,[c]Wisłok Republic[1] andLemko Republic,[d] was a short-livedmicrostate, an association of thirty threeLemko villages, seated inKomańcza in the east of theLemko Region, that existed between 4 November 1918 and 24 January 1919. It was headed by Head of the Council (голова Повітової Української Національної Ради, Head of the Ukrainian NationalCountyCouncil) Rev.Panteleymon Shpylka.
Unlike the contemporaneousLemko Republic to its west (which sought unification with theRussian Soviet Republic), the Komancza Republic planned to unite with theWest Ukrainian People's Republic in an independent Ukrainian state. However, this was suppressed by thePolish government as part of thePolish–Ukrainian War.
