Kodakara is a town in theThrissur district ofKerala state inSouth India.[1] It is located next to the national highway (NH 544), 20 km (12 miles) south ofThrissur town, 7.5 km to the south ofPuthukkad town and about 10 km (6.2 miles) north ofChalakudy. Administratively, Kodakara is part of Kodakara Panchayat,Chalakudy taluk, and Irinjalakuda revenue division. Kodakara Panchayat is part of the Chalakudy assembly constituency and theChalakudy Lok Sabha constituency.[2]

As of2011 Census of India, Kodakara had a population of 32,201 with 15,473 males and 16,728 females.[1]

Kodakara Hawala Scandal

After a few weeks of2021 Kerala Legislative Assembly election result day, allegations came against theBJP leadership of Kerala for carrying illegalblack money (Hawala), which was related to 2021 election.[3] The money was seized at Kodakara.[3] TheKerala Police handed over the case toEnforcement Directorate.[4] The money was looted at Kodakara on 3 April 2021, just 3 days before the election.[5] The police revealed that the actual amount was Rs 3.5Crore and it was brought for the BJP's election campaign.[5] BJP state presidentK. Surendran was the chief accused in the case.[5] TheUDF alleged that it was due to the mutual understanding between LDF and BJP that theKerala Police didn't investigate it first.[6]
