Kobylniki[kɔbɨlˈniki] is avillage in the administrative district ofGmina Obrzycko, withinSzamotuły County,Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland.[1]
The landmark of Kobylniki is theNeo-Renaissance Kobylniki Palace, designed byZygmunt Gorgolewski and built for the Twardowski family.
Kobylniki was mentioned in 1218 as a possession of theCistercian monasteryŁekno,[2] and later it was a private village ofPolish nobility, administratively located in the Poznań County in thePoznań Voivodeship in theGreater Poland Province of the Kingdom of Poland.[3]
During theGerman occupation of Poland (World War II), the forest of Kobylniki was the site of large massacres ofPoles from nearby towns and villages, carried out by the Germans.[4] There is a memorial at the site. During theIntelligenzaktion, Poles from Kobylniki were also murdered inKościan and theMauthausen concentration camp.[5]
