It is in thecivil parish ofBoho, in between the townlands ofGlenkeel andReyfad.[1] Within this area are the sub-townlands of Arduagh, Carricknamulloge (fromIrishCarraig na Mullóige[2]), Carricknine, Horse Rock, Legloughra, Owneyglas, Silkins and Sterrickinard.[1]
This area is mentioned as far back as 1672 as "K:nahinshina" in theBarony of Magheraboy.[3] Later on, in 1834, it was referred to by its Irish name ofCnoc na h-Uinnsean meaning "ridge of the ash trees".[3]
