Armstrong Frederick "Klondike" Smith (January 4, 1887 – November 15, 1959) was an English bornMajor League Baseballoutfielder. He started the last seven games of the 1912 season for theNew York Highlanders, who were 50–102 and finished in last place in theAmerican League. The 25-year-oldrookie was a native of London.
Smith made hismajor league debut in a September 28double-header against thePhiladelphia Athletics atShibe Park. His last appearance was on October 5 in a home game against theWashington Senators atHilltop Park. That was the only game the Highlanders won while Smith was in the lineup.
During his brief time in the big leagues he was 5-for-27 (.185) with onedouble and onestolen base. In the field he recorded tenputouts and made noerrors.
Smith died at the age of 72 of aheart attack while visiting friends inSpringfield, Massachusetts. He is buried inLawrence, Massachusetts.[1]
