TheKite is an Americansailboat that was designed by Carter Pyle as aone designracer and first built in 1965.[1][2][3]

The design was built byNewport Boats inNewport Beach, California and Mobjack Manufacturing Corp. inGloucester, Virginia starting in 1965, but it is now out of production.[1][3][4][5]

Design

Kite

The Kite is a recreationalsailing dinghy, built predominantly offiberglass. It has a single sailcatboat rig, a slightlyraked stem, an angledtransom, a transom-hungrudder controlled by atiller and adaggerboard. It displaces 165 lb (75 kg).[1][3]

The boat has a draft of 3.00 ft (0.91 m) with the centerboard extended and 5 in (13 cm) with it retracted, allowingbeaching or ground transportation on atrailer.[1][3]

For sailing the design is equipped withboom vang and a center-boom-mountedmainsheet.[1][3]

The design has ahull speed of 4.43 kn (8.20 km/h).[3]

Operational history

The boat was at one time supported by a class club that organized racing events, theKite Class, but it is now inactive.[6]
