Kirith Entwistle (néeKaur Ahluwalia; born c. 1991),[1] is a BritishLabour Party politician serving as theMember of Parliament forBolton North East since the2024 general election.[2][3][4][5]

Background

Kirith Entwistle was born inSouthall, London. Her grandparents areKenyan Indians who migrated to the United Kingdom during the 1970s. Her father, originally fromDelhi, moved to the UK in the 1980s.[6] Entwistle graduated from theUniversity of Portsmouth in 2012 with aBachelor of Arts (BA) in American Studies.[7] According to Bolton News, Entwistle worked "for a charity campaigning against loneliness and previously for theRoyal British Legion".[4]

Prior to her election, she was a policy, communications and public affairs manager for WaveLength Charity.[8] She is the first Sikh to represent Bolton North East.[9] She was also previously a member of theYoung Fabians executive committee.

Parliamentary career

Entwistle stood for election toBolton Council in 2019[10] as the Labour Party Candidate for Bradshaw ward.

Entwistle was elected as Labour MP for theBolton North East constituency in the2024 general election.[11]

In November 2024, Entwistle voted in favour of theTerminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which proposes to legaliseassisted suicide.[12]

Entwistle is a Member of the Women and Equalities Select Committee[13] and The Modernisation Committee[14]

When MPs debated the Universal Credit Bill,[15] Entwistle was one of the Labour rebels who backed the reasoned amendment,[16] which forced concessions from the Government.

She has championed new laws to protected women and girls from non-consensual image abuse[17] and worked with the campaign Dad Shift to advocate for improved paternal leave.[18][19]
