Kirill Alexandrovich Peskov (Russian:Кирилл Александрович Песков; born 1 May 1990) is a Russiancosmonaut who is serving as a flight engineer as part of the long-durationExpedition 72 and73 missions to theInternational Space Station flying aboardSpaceX Crew-10. Selected as a cosmonaut in 2018 as part ofRoscosmos Group 17, he has undergone extensive training at theYuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. Before joining thecosmonaut corps, he was acommercial pilot, serving as afirst officer forIkar Airlines onBoeing 757 and767 aircraft.
Born inKyzyl, in what was then known as theTuva Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic,[1][2] Peskov graduated from School No. 14 inNazarovo in 2007. He then enrolled at theUlyanovsk Institute of Civil Aviation, specializing inFlight Operation of Aircraft. In 2012, he graduated with anengineering degree and received the military rank ofLieutenant in the reserve forces of theRussian Air Force.[3]
Peskov began his professional aviation career in 2012 as afirst officer withNordwind Airlines, pilotingBoeing 757 aircraft based out ofSheremetyevo Airport.[3] The following year, he joinedIkar Airlines, flying Boeing 757 and767 aircraft based out ofKrasnoyarsk International Airport[4][5] until his selection as a cosmonaut candidate in 2018.
In March 2017, Peskov applied to theYuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center's recruitment program. After receiving clearance from themedical commission in April 2018, he was officially selected as a cosmonaut candidate in August.[6]
In early 2019, Peskov participated in wintersurvival training, simulating emergency landings in forested and marshy areas alongside his fellow cosmonaut candidates.[1] Later that year, he completed diver training at theNoginsk rescue center, earning his qualification as adiver.[1] In October, he underwent intensive water survival training in the Black Sea, where he practiced dry, long, and short-duration survival exercises.[1]
Peskov successfully passed the state examination in November 2020.[1] A few weeks later, in December, he was officially certified as a test cosmonaut by the Interdepartmental Qualification Commission.[7] The following year, in July 2021, he participated in a two-day desert survival exercise, preparing for potential spacecraft landings in harsh, arid environments.[5]
In May 2023, Peskov was assigned as the backup forAleksandr Gorbunov onSpaceX Crew-9, part of a crew swap agreement between Roscosmos andNASA to maintain a continuous presence on theInternational Space Station (ISS). At the same time, he was training as aflight engineer for theSoyuz MS-27 spacecraft, which was slated to carry cosmonauts to the ISS forExpedition 73.[6]
His first spaceflight assignment came in August 2024 when he was selected as a crew member forSpaceX Crew-10, which transported him to the ISS forExpedition 72 and73 in March 2025.[8][9]
