"King's Dead" is a song by American rappersJay Rock,Kendrick Lamar, andFuture with English singerJames Blake, from thesoundtrack album of theMarvel Studiossuperhero filmBlack Panther and Jay Rock's third studio albumRedemption. The version featured onRedemption did not feature Lamar and Blake and contains multiple differences to the original one.
It was released byTop Dawg Entertainment,Aftermath Entertainment andInterscope Records on January 11, 2018, as both the soundtrack's second single and as the lead single fromRedemption.[4][5] The song is Jay Rock's first single to chart on theBillboard Hot 100.[6] The song, along with "Bubblin" byAnderson .Paak, wonBest Rap Performance, and was nominated forBest Rap Song at the61st Annual Grammy Awards.
Briana Younger ofPitchfork gave the song a positive review, calling the song "fun and swaggering".[7]
The music video for the song was released to Rock'sVevo channel onYouTube on February 15, 2018. It was directed by Dave Free and Jack Begert.[8]
On March 8, 2018, American rappersJoey Badass andXXXTentacion released a remix of the song.[9]
