TheKia Retona is a smallmini SUV based onKia's military jeeps. The name is a portmanteau ofreturn to nature.[1] Developed byAsia Motors, the car was initially sold as the "Asia Retona" in some markets. The Retona had been using the same platform as the first generationKia Sportage Convertible. Its competitors included theLada Niva,Suzuki Jimny and theSsangYong Korando.[2]
