TheKhatmiyya is aSufi order ortariqa founded bySayyidMohammed Uthman al-Mirghani al-Khatim.[1][2][3]The Khatmiyya is the largestSufi order inSudan,Eritrea andEthiopia.[citation needed] It also has followers inEgypt,Chad,Saudi Arabia,Somalia,Uganda,Yemen andIndia.[citation needed]

Al-SayyidAl-Khatim was born inAt-Ta'if inHijaz and buried in Mecca inTihamah. He started his travels at the age of twenty five after gaining his education through a number of prominent Islamic scholars in Mecca of his time among whom was SayyidAhmad Ibn Idris al-Fasi.[1]
