Khalida Hussain (Urdu:خالدہ حسین; 18 July 1937 – 11 January 2019) was a Pakistani fiction writer and novelist ofUrdu.[1][2][3] She introduced a new trend in Urdu fiction writing, she mostly wrote stories on real life and was regarded as the best fiction writer in Pakistan afterIntizar Hussain.[4] Khalida's novelKaghazi Ghat (Paper Wharf) was her last novel inUrdu Literature.[4]

Early life and education

Born as Khalida Asghar inLahore on 18 July 1937,[5] her father, A. G. Asghar was vice chancellor ofUniversity of Engineering and Technology, Lahore.[5][6] Khalida completed her BA from theLahore College for Women University. Later she received a master's degree fromUniversity of the Punjab, Lahore.[5] She got her Masters in Literature from theUniversity of the Punjab.[5] She shifted to Islamabad after her marriage, then Karachi and returned to Islamabad.[2][5]

Career

Khalida Hussain chose teaching as her career besides being a writer.[5] She started short story writing in 1956. Many compilations of her short stories have been published, which includePehchaan (1982),Darwaza (1984),Masroof Aurat,Hain Khaab Main Hunooz andMein Yahan Hun. She also authored a novelKaghazi Ghat.[6][1]

Death

She died on 11 January 2019 at the age of 81 inIslamabad, Pakistan. In her old age, she was getting weak with some chronic illnesses.[5][8]
