Khagen Murmu (born 2 February 1960) is an Indian politician and aMember of Parliament fromMaldaha Uttar. He is a member of theBharatiya Janata Party fromWest Bengal.[1] He has served four terms as aMLA fromHabibpur constituency as member ofCPI(M) from 2001 to 2019.[2][3][4]

Personal life

Murmu was born on 2 February 1960 to Jalo Murmu and Sakro Hembrom in Shekhpar ofMalda district in the state ofWest Bengal. He completed his graduation inBachelor of Arts fromMagadh University,Patna. Murmu married Manju Kisku on 10 May 1985, with whom he has three sons and a daughter. Murmu is also a social worker.[5]

Political career

Murmu is a Santhali leader.[3] He was first elected fromHabibpur constituency as member ofCPI(M) in 2001. In 2019 he joinedBharatiya Janata Party and was selected forLok Sabha2019 Indian general election fromMaldaha Uttar (Lok Sabha constituency).
