Keyu Jin (Chinese:金刻羽;pinyin:Jīn Kèyǔ; born 13 November 1982) is a Chineseeconomist, currently serving as a Professor of Finance at theHong Kong University of Science and Technology since 2025.

Graduated fromHarvard University, Jin received a bachelor's degree in 2004 and a PhD degree in 2009, both in economics.[1] She served as Lecturer in Economics from 2009 to 2017[2] and as Associate Professor of Economics from 2017 to 2024 at theLondon School of Economics.[3] Her fields of research are ininternational macroeconomics, international finance andtrade, and theChinese economy.[4]

Her father isJin Liqun, the current president of theAsian Infrastructure Investment Bank and former vice minister of finance of China.[5]

Early life and education

Jin was born inBeijing, China. Her father,Jin Liqun, is an economist and politician who previously served as the vice minister of finance of China and is the founding president of theAsian Infrastructure Investment Bank.[6]: 136 [7] At age 14, Jin travelled to the United States to attendHorace Mann School inthe Bronx ofNew York City.[8]

Graduated fromHarvard University, Jin received aBachelor of Arts degree with a major in economics in 2004 and aDoctor of Philosophy degree in economics in 2009.[9] Her doctoral advisor wasKenneth Rogoff, and her doctoral dissertation was titledEssays on international trade and macroeconomic dynamics (2009).[10]

Career

Jin is a specialist inmacroeconomic and financial policy issues.[6]: 136  Her research focuses on global imbalances and global asset prices, drivers of China's growth model, the impact of the one-child policy, and the Chinese saving puzzle.[11]

After receiving her PhD degree, Jin joined the Department of Economics at theLondon School of Economics as a faculty member in 2009.[12][13] She served as Lecturer in Economics from 2009 to 2017[2] and as Associate Professor of Economics from 2017 to 2024.[12][13][3]

In 2025, Jin joined theHong Kong University of Science and Technology as a Professor at the Department of Finance at theSchool of Business and Management.[1]

Social engagement

Jin was namedYoung Global Leader by theWorld Economic Forum in 2014.[14] Jin was also a visiting professor atYale University on the Cowles Fellowship from September to December 2012 as well as at theUniversity of California, Berkeley from January to May 2015.[4] In 2022, Jin joined the board ofCredit Suisse[15] and was a member of the Risk Committee and the Digital Transformation and Technology Committee.[16] She is a member of theChina Finance 40 Forum.[6]: 136 

Jin has advised and consulted for theWorld Bank, theInternational Monetary Fund, and theFederal Reserve Bank of New York.[17] She also has had experience at financial institutions, includingGoldman Sachs,JP Morgan, andMorgan Stanley.[17] She is a columnist forProject Syndicate andCaixin Magazine,[11][17] and has contributed opinion pieces to media outlets such as theFinancial Times and theSouth China Morning Post.[11] Jin also serves as a non-executive director ofRichemont Group, the world's second-largest luxury goods company.[18] She served on a working committee forChina Banking Regulatory Commission on Fintech[11][17] and sat on the editorial board of theReview of Economic Studies.[4][11]

  • The New China Playbook: Beyond Socialism and Capitalism, May 16, 2023.[19] InThe New China Playbook, Jin writes that China has achieved significant progress without following the "Western path" and its innovation and technological development challenge the view that China must converge with Western economic systems and political persuasions to continue its development.[6]: 136  The book takes a positive view of China's mechanisms of state-led economic intervention.[6]: 136–137
