Kevin Stöger (born 27 August 1993) is an Austrian professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forBundesliga clubBorussia Mönchengladbach and theAustria national team. He is the younger brother of fellow footballerPascal Stöger, though both are not related to managerPeter Stöger.
On 22 January 2011, Stöger debuted forVfB Stuttgart II in the3. Liga againstFC Carl Zeiss Jena.[1][better source needed]
Stöger was promoted to the first team ofVfB Stuttgart ahead of the2012–13 Fußball-Bundesliga,[2] debuting on 31 October 2012 in the second round of the2012–13 DFB-Pokal in a 3–0 home victory againstFC St. Pauli.[3] He was sent on loan to1. FC Kaiserslautern until June 2015[4] before moving toSC Paderborn 07 on 26 August.[5] In June 2016, Stöger joinedBochum on a free transfer until June 2018.[6] then newly-promotedFortuna Düsseldorf on 28 May 2018. He was given the number 22.[7]
On 7 October 2020, Stöger signed forMainz 05 on a free transfer, on a two-year deal.[8][9]
On 10 June 2022, Stöger returned toVfL Bochum on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract.[10] In the2023–24 season, he became the player with most chances created in Bundesliga in 127 occasions.[11]
On 4 June 2024, Stöger signed forBorussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer until June 2027.[12]
At the age of 17, Stöger was called up into the Austrian squad for the2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.[13] On 6 September 2024, he debuted for theAustria national team in aNations League game against Slovenia at theStožice Stadium, coming as a substitute toRomano Schmid in the 82nd minute of a 1–1 draw.[14]
