Kenyte is a type ofigneous rock. More specifically, it is a variety ofporphyriticphonolite ortrachyte with rhomb-shapedphenocrysts ofanorthoclase with variable amounts ofolivine andaugite in a glassymatrix; the glass may be devitrified.[1]
It was originally described and named byJ. W. Gregory in 1900 for the occurrence onMount Kenya.[2][3] Kenyte has also been reported fromMount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) andMount Erebus (Antarctica).[4]
