Kenneth Stevenson (born 1963 or 1964)[1] is a BritishLabour Party politician and engineer who has served asMember of Parliament (MP) forAirdrie and Shotts since 2024.

Early life and career

Stevenson studied engineering at Calderhead High School inShotts from 1975 to 1980. He received aBachelor of Science degree from theOpen University.

Stevenson has worked as an engineer at companies includingBAE Systems,Hyster andTerex.[1] He became an engineering lecturer atAnniesland College in 2006, which later merged withGlasgow Clyde College.[1]

Political career

Stevenson was elected as a Member ofNorth Lanarkshire Council forFortissat in2017 and was re-elected in2022.[2] As councillor, he served as convener of the Communities Committee and Community Safety Partnership Forum between 2022 and 2024.[3]

Stevenson was elected as MP forAirdrie and Shotts at the2024 general election, defeating hisSNP predecessorAnum Qaisar.[4] He had previously contested the2021 by-election for the constituency, in which he came second to Qaisar.[5]

In Labour's candidate selection for both elections, Stevenson had defeatedPamela Nash, the Labour MP for the constituency between 2010 and 2015.[6][7] Following his election victory, Stevenson resigned from the Council in August 2024.[3]

In the2025 Labour Party deputy leadership election, Stevenson nominatedBell Ribeiro-Addy.[8]

Personal life

Stevenson owns a second home inSpain.[9]
