John Keefe Cato(born May 6, 1958) is an American formerMajor League Baseball (MLB)relief pitcher who played for theCincinnati Reds in 1983 and 1984.
A native ofYonkers, New York, Cato graduated fromFairfield University, where he playedcollege baseball for theStags and holds many Fairfield pitching records including seven career shutouts and one no-hitter. In 1978, he playedcollegiate summer baseball with theHarwich Mariners of theCape Cod Baseball League.[1] He was the first Fairfield athlete to play in a major professional sport on the major league level after being selected by theCincinnati Reds in the second round of the1979 Major League Baseball Draft.[2]
