Kaugel (Gawigl) is one of the languages spoken in theSouthern Highlands province ofPapua New Guinea. Native speakers call the area on theSouthern Highlands side of theKaugel River from the Western Highlands province home.
Dialects areAua (Ibo Ugu, Imbo Ungu,Imbongu) andGawil (Umbo Ungu, Kakoli).
Kaugel counts with abase-24 system in cycles of 4. The word for 4 is also the word for hand in reference to the four fingers.[2]
A translation of the New Testament was published in 1997 and is currently available online.[3]
Imbongu has apandanus language used duringkaruka harvest.[4]
