Katie Quinn Lowes[1] (born September 22, 1982[2]) is an American actress and theater director. She is best known for her role asQuinn Perkins in theABC political drama seriesScandal (2012–2018) and her portrayal ofRachel DeLoache Williams in theNetflix drama seriesInventing Anna (2022).

Early life

Lowes grew up inPort Washington, New York, where she graduated in 2000 fromPaul D. Schreiber Senior High School.[3] She graduated fromNew York University'sTisch School of the Arts with BFA in acting.[4] Her father is Irish Catholic, and her mother is Jewish.[5]

Career

She was cast in the stage playFour Saints in Mexico. In 2004, Lowes landed her first screen role in theFX seriesRescue Me and later co-starred oppositeMarcia Gay Harden in the Showtime pilot,Hate. Lowes later guest starred in a number of television series, includingThe Sopranos,Without a Trace,NCIS,Ghost Whisperer,Castle,Leverage, andThe Closer. In 2008, she starred oppositeLaurie Metcalf inThe CW short-lived comedy-drama series,Easy Money.[4][6] In addition to her television performances, Lowes appeared in a number of low-budget films, includingThe Job (2009),Bear (2010), andCafé (2011).

Lowes is best known for her role asQuinn Perkins, formerly Lindsay Dwyer, in theABC political drama seriesScandal created byShonda Rhimes.[7][8] BeforeScandal, Lowes had guest roles on Shonda Rhimes'Grey's Anatomy andPrivate Practice.[4] Before landing her breakout role on the show, she worked as nanny forConnie Britton's adopted son.[9][10]

With her husband, Adam Shapiro, she is one of the founders and directors of the Los Angeles-based IAMA Theater Company, and a supporter of Southern California'sblack box theater community.[11][12]

In July 2018, Lowes made her Broadway debut, along with her husband Shapiro, in the Broadway production ofWaitress.[13] They remained in the production until October 7, 2018.[14]

On May 14, 2021,CBS announced that Lowes would star oppositePete Holmes in a sitcom based around the life of laid-off auto worker-turned-professionalbowlerTom Smallwood.[15] The multi-camera series mid-season debut was planned for the 2021–22 television season.[16] On November 24, CBS announced the sitcom had been retitledHow We Roll, and received an adjusted first season order of 11 episodes.[17] On December 10, 2021, CBS announced the series would premiere on March 31, 2022.[18] In May 2022, the series was canceled after one season.[19]

Lowes playedRachel DeLoache Williams in Shonda Rhimes'Inventing Anna, aNetflix miniseries released in February 2022.

Personal life

Lowes lives in Los Angeles with her husband, actor Adam Shapiro.[20] Shapiro played her character's boyfriend in an episode ofScandal.[21] In May 2017, she announced that she and her husband were expecting their first child, a boy.[22] She announced the birth of their son, Albee Shapiro, on October 5, 2017.[23] Lowes gave birth to their daughter, Vera Shapiro, on November 22, 2020.[24]
