Katherine Hui (born 29 January 2005) is an American tennis player. She became thegirls' singles champion at the2023 US Open.[1][2]
FromSan Diego, California, Hui graduated fromSanta Fe Christian High School in 2023 and committed toStanford University.[3] Her parents, Yimei and Yan, were born in China before moving to the United States.[4]
Hui qualified for the prestigious junior tournamentLes Petits As inTarbes in January 2019.[5] At the tournament, she lost to eventual championLinda Fruhvirtová in the quarterfinals.[6] Hui and her partner, Kayla Cross from Canada, were the runners-up in doubles.[citation needed]
In 2022, at the Billie Jean King Girls’ 16s and 18s National Championships, Hui reached the semifinals.[7] In 2023, at the Billie Jean King Girls’ 16s and 18s National Championships, she reached the final but was defeated in three sets byClervie Ngounoue.[8]
Awarded a wildcard into thegirls' singles at the2023 US Open, Hui won the tournament by defeatingTereza Valentová in straight sets. She did not lose a set throughout the tournament.[9]
Awarded a wildcard for the qualifying competition to the2023 US Open women's singles, Hui lost in the first round toEugenie Bouchard.[10]
She received a wildcard for the2024 San Diego Open for herWTA Tour main-draw debut,[11] but lost in the first round to seventh seedDonna Vekić.[12]
