Kate Orman (born 1968) is an Australian author, best known for her books connected to the Britishscience-fiction television seriesDoctor Who.[1]
Kate Orman was born inSydney, but grew up inCanberra andMelbourne and spent two years living in the United States. She earned a degree inbiology atSydney University before becoming a professional author. She is a self-described "liberal feminist".[citation needed]
She is married to American writerJonathan Blum, whom she met throughDoctor Whofandom.
Orman penned many spin-off novels fromDoctor Who forVirgin Publishing,BBC Books andTelos Publishing, the first non-British and first female author to do so.[2] Several of her laterDoctor Who works were in collaboration with her husband. She has also collaborated withPaul Cornell: Orman and Cornell co-plottedHuman Nature, written by Cornell, andReturn of the Living Dad, written by Orman. More recentDoctor Who and related work has been forBig Finish.
Orman has also had a number of shortscience fiction stories published.[3]
In 2004, Orman and Blum'sDoctor Who novellaFallen Gods, published by Telos the previous year, won theAurealis Award for best Australian science-fiction book.[2]
