Karishma K. Tanna (born 21 December 1983) is an Indian actress and model who predominantly works inHindi films and television shows. She made her television debut withKyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in 2001. She is well known for her roles inPaalkhi,Naagin 3 andQayamat Ki Raat. She was a contestant on the reality showBigg Boss 8 in 2014, where she emerged as the 1st runner-up. In 2020, she participated inFear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 and emerged as the winner.[1][2][3]
Tanna made her film debut as Nandini Thapar withSuneel Darshan'sDosti: Friends Forever (2006). In 2013, she was seen inIndra Kumar's successful comedyGrand Masti.[4] In 2018, she featured inRajkumar Hirani's biopic ofSanjay Dutt titledSanju.[5] The same year, she entered the digital world withALT Balaji's web seriesKarrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat as Zoya Hussain.[6] She gained further critical accolades inHansal Mehta'sNetflix TV seriesScoop (2023).[7]
Tanna was born on 21 December 1983[8][9] and brought up in aGujarati joint family settled in Mumbai.[8] She lives with her mother, and is very close to her; her father died in October 2012.[10]
Tanna first appeared inBalaji Telefilms' soap operaKyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi[11] where she played the role of Indu.[12][13] She then appeared in the showKahi To Milenge.
Tanna played the female lead in the TV seriesKkoi Dil Mein Hai as Krutika. She later appeared inEk Ladki Anjaani Si playing the negative role of Ayesha.[14] Tanna made herHindi film debut inDosti: Friends Forever (2005), playing Nandini Thapar. In the same year she played the lead inPaalkhi. Tanna has also acted in several television advertisements, includingStayfree,Lifebuoy andNirma.[15] She was also a part ofRajshri Productions'Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam.[16][17][18] In September 2006, Tanna made her theater debut with theHinglish romantic comedyPerfect Wedding, directed by Vandana Sajnani. The work was adapted from Robin Howdon's British play of the same name.[17][19]
Tanna participated in the stage-based comedy TV seriesComedy Circus, that started in June 2007.[20] She later came back inComedy Circus Mahasangram in February 2010.[21] In 2008, she participated inZara Nachke Dikha and won the show along with her team. She later participated inKaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket andKaho Na Yaar Hai.
She presented reality shows likeKaante Ki Takkar andComedy Champions. Tanna hosted a magic-based reality TV show,India's Magic Star in July 2010.[22][23] In August 2010, she participated inImagine TV'sMeethi Choori No 1. She also played the role of Avni inStar One'sJaane Pehchaane Se... Ye Ajnabbi. In 2011, she participated inZor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout.[24] The same year, she played Ms Jaffery inSony TV'sAdaalat. In 2012, she acted in the children's television programBaal Veer, playing the role of Rani Pari.[25]
Cute Tanna was a contestant on the popular controversial reality show,Bigg Boss 8. She spent 4 months inside the house and became the winner 1st runner-up.[26][27][28][29][30] In 2015, Tanna participated in the dance reality showNach Baliye 7 along withUpen Patel and emerged as the 2nd runner-up.[31]
In March 2016, Karishma made a guest appearance in the popular stunt reality showFear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7.[32] She also appeared as a guest in the popular comedy showComedy Nights Bachao, which aired onColors TV.[33][34] Karishma participated in the popular dance reality showJhalak Dikhhla Jaa 9 in 2016.[35] Tanna also played the role of Maskeeni inLife OK's showNaagarjuna – Ek Yoddha.[36] In January 2017, Tanna judgedBIG Magic's reality showBig Memsaab along withSambhavna Seth and Pritam Singh.
In April 2018, she appeared inALT Balaji'sKarrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat as Zoya Hussain.[37] In May 2018, Tanna played the cameo role of Ruhi inColors TV's popular supernatural seriesNaagin 3. In June 2018, Tanna acted in Rajkumar Hirani's filmSanju[5] as a character named Pinky alongsideRanbir Kapoor andVicky Kaushal. She also played the lead inEkta Kapoor'sQayamat Ki Raat as Gauri.[38] In February 2019, Tanna appeared onKitchen Champion 5 along withKaran Tacker. Later in May 2019, she appeared onKhatra Khatra Khatra. In 2020, she participated inFear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 and emerged as the winner.[1] In November 2020, she appeared inSuraj Pe Mangal Bhari in the song "Basanti".[39] In 2021, Tanna appeared in the web seriesBullets as Lolo.[40][41] In 2023, she is seen inHansal Mehta's web series 'Scoop' released onNetflix, where she plays an accused Gujarati crime reporter.[42]
Tanna started dating actorUpen Patel in 2014 when they met inside theBigg Boss 8 house and later was engaged to him.[43][44] In 2016, they ended their relationship.[45]
Tanna started dating aMumbai-based real estate businessman Varun Bangera in 2021. In the same year, they got engaged in an intimate ceremony. She married Varun Bangera on 5 February 2022.[46][47]
