Karim Janat (born 11 August 1998) is an Afghancricketer.[1] He made hisfirst-class debut against theEngland Lions on 7 December 2016.[2] Prior to his first-class debut, he was part of Afghanistan's squad for the2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.[3]

Domestic and T20 franchise career

Along withZahir Khan, he was the joint-leading wicket-taker in the2017 Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament, with twelve dismissals.[4] He was also the leading wicket-taker forKabul Region in the2018 Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament, with 30 dismissals in ten matches.[5]

In September 2018, he was named in Kandahar's squad in thefirst edition of theAfghanistan Premier League tournament.[6] In September 2020, he was the joint winner of the player of the tournament award in the2020 Shpageeza Cricket League.[7] In 2021, he received his first selections in overseas franchise tournaments, being selected by theColombo Stars for the2021Lanka Premier League,[8] and theSylhet Sunrisers in the2022Bangladesh Premier League.[9] In July 2022, he was signed by theColombo Stars for thethird edition of theLanka Premier League.[10]

International career

He made hisTwenty20 International (T20I) debutagainst the United Arab Emirates on 14 December 2016. He scored 25 runs in the match and took 3 wickets. This all-round performance gave him his firstman of the match award.[11][12][13] He made hisOne Day International (ODI) debutagainst Zimbabwe at theHarare Sports Club on 24 February 2017.[14]

In December 2018, he was named in Afghanistan's under-23 team for the2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup.[15] On 16 November 2019, in the second matchagainst the West Indies, he took his firstfive-wicket haul in T20I cricket.[16] He took five wickets for eleven runs from his four overs, and was named the player of the match.[17] In November 2019, he was named in Afghanistan'sTest squad for the one-off matchagainst the West Indies.[18]

In September 2021, he was named in Afghanistan's squad for the2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.[19]

He made his Test debut for Afghanistan againstBangladesh, on 14 June 2023.[20]

In May 2024, he was named in Afghanistan’s squad for the2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament.[21]
