In 1996,[6] Ashok Giri ofCPI(M) defeated Manturam Pakhira ofINC. Hrishikesh Maity ofCPI(M) won in 1991, 1987, 1982 and 1977 defeating Gourishankar Bhattacharya ofINC in 1991[7] and 1987,[8] and Basudev Sautya ofINC in 1982[9] and 1977.[10][11]
Basudeb Sautya ofINC won in 1972.[12] Hrishikesh Maity ofCPI(M) won in 1971.[13] Hansadhwaj Dhara ofINC won in 1969[14] and 1967.[15] Maya Banejee ofINC won in 1962[16] and 1957.[17] The seat did not exist prior to that.
