TheKairatos (Greek:Καίρατος,Latin:Caeratus[1]) is a naturalwatercourse on the island ofCrete inGreece. In theMinoan era, aqueducts diverted water toKephala hill from spring water sources atArchanes, whichsprings are theheadwaters of the Kairatos River;[2] in fact, theBronze Age palace ofKnossos lay upon the gently sloping banks of the Kairatos.[3] The Kairatos runs east of Knossos and flows into theAegean Sea in the Katsampas area, 1.5 km east of the city center ofHeraklion.[4]
