
Kaffa (Amharic: ካፋ) was aprovince on the southwestern side ofEthiopia; its capital city wasBonga. Kaffa was bordered on the west bySudan, on the northwest byIllubabor, on the north byWalega, on the northeast byShewa, on the east bySidamo, and on the southeast byGamu-Gofa.
According to legend, ancestors of today'sKafficho people in southwest Ethiopia were the first to cultivate thecoffee plant and recognise the energising effect of the coffee beverage.[1][2]
