Kabulistan (Persian: کابلستان) is a historical region centered on present-dayKabul Province ofAfghanistan.[1][2]
By the 10th century,Ibn Khordadbeh and theHudud al-'Alam report the southern part of the Hindu Kush, i.e. the regions ofSistan,Rukhkhudh,Zabulistan andKabul to make up theKhorasan marches.[3]
During the 16h century, founder of theMughal Empire,Babur states in hisBaburnama, his memoirs: The people ofHindustān call every country beyond their ownKhorasān, in the same manner as the Arabs term all except Arabia,Ajem. On the road between Hindustān and Khorasān, there are two great marts: the oneKābul, the otherKandahār. Caravans, from Ferghāna, Tūrkestān, Samarkand, Balkh, Bokhāra, Hissār, andBadakhshān, all resort to Kābul; while those from Khorasān repair toKandahār. This country lies between Hindustān and Khorasān.[4]
In many Greek and Latin sources, particularly editions of Ptolemy'sGeography, the name of the region is given as Cabolitae (Καβολῖται). European writers in the 18th to the 20th centuries sometimes referred toDurrani Empire as theKingdom of Caboul.[5]
