By day, KWWN is powered at 22,000watts. The stationsigned on the air in December 2007; 17 years ago (December 2007), after running test transmissions for several months. These tests were mainly to arrange the nighttimedirectional signal of the station, so it would not interfere with nearbyKNZZ inColorado or other stations on 1100kHz. While testing, the station ran at half power (10,000 watts day and 1,000 watts night) to further limit the possibility ofinterference.1100 AM is a United Statesclear-channel frequency, on whichWTAM inCleveland, Ohio, is the dominantClass A station. Upon signing on, the station began running at its authorized power.[4][5]
Originally, KWWNsimulcast the sports format of itssister station,KBAD920 AM. In 2008, the simulcast ended. KBAD became the localnetwork affiliate ofFox Sports Radio, while KWWN picked up the ESPN Radio affiliation.KENO, which had run Fox Sports, joinedESPN Deportes Radio and itsSpanish-language sports format.[6]
