KMRJ (99.5MHz, "Jammin' 99.5") is acommercialFMradio stationlicensed toRancho Mirage, California, and serving thePalm Springsradio market. The signal covers theCoachella Valley and parts of theMorongo Basin andPalo Verde Valley. It is owned by Marker Broadcasting. KMRJ uses the slogan "The Coachella Valley's Old School."
KMRJ broadcasts at aneffective radiated power of 3,000watts. Its studios and offices are on Merle Drive inPalm Desert, California.[2] Thetransmitter is inIndio Hills, California.[3]
It carries the legendaryArt Laboe "Love Zone" program, based in his studio in Palm Springs.[4] heard acrossCalifornia, the WesternUnited States and on the internet.
On July 17, 1998,KMRJsigned on the air.[5] The station aired analternative rock format as "M99.5." KMRJ flipped toclassic rock as "99.5 The Heat" in July 2008. In October 2009, ownership changed from Mitchell Media to RM Broadcasting, owners ofKPLM, KJJZ (nowKRHQ) and KAJR (nowKJJZ). The studios were relocated as well.
On September 13, 2010, KMRJ began carrying thesyndicatedKevin and Bean morning show broadcast fromLos Angeles alternative stationKROQ-FM. It also carried the syndicated radio showNights with Alice Cooper.
On August 31, 2012, after playingWild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music" over and over for several hours, KMRJ flipped formats toRhythmic AC as "Jammin' 99.5," with an emphasis on Rhythmic hits and Old School classics.
