Košarkaški klub Proleter (Serbian Cyrillic:Кошаркашки клуб Пролетер), commonly referred to asKK Proleter Zrenjanin, is a men's professionalbasketballclub based inZrenjanin,Serbia. They currently participates in theSecond Basketball League of Serbia. The club is also known asProleter Naftagas due to sponsorship reasons. They are theonly club in Serbia outside Belgrade which won a national title.
Formed in 1947, they immediately became one of the leading clubs in theYugoslavia. The club was named afterProletariat. In the1948 season, just one year after its establishment, the club won second place in thenational championship. They also finished runners-up in1952 and1955, before finally won the national title in the1956 season.[1][2] At the time, the club has a notable starting five consisted of playersVilmos Lóczi,Lajos Engler,Dušan Radojčić,Ljubomir Katić, andMilutin Minja.[3]
After more than a decade playing in the lower leagues, the club participated in theBasketball League of Serbia from2009 to2012.
