KAMA (750kHz) is anAM radio station broadcasting a Spanishhot adult contemporary format. Licensed toEl Paso, Texas, United States, the station serves theEl Paso area. The station is owned by 97.5 Licensee TX, LLC, and operated by Pro Radio LLC.
The nighttime signal of KAMA reduces power to 1 kilowatt and becomes highly directional to the west in order to protect theskywave signal ofWSB inAtlanta. WSB is aClass A dominant station on750 AM, a United States and Canadianclear-channel frequency shared withCBGY inBonavista, Newfoundland and Labrador.[2] is the Canadian Class A station on 750 AM.
The station went on the air on July 11, 1985.[3] It served as a relocation of KAMA, which had been at 1060 (laterKXPL) and aired a Spanish-language format with a heritage stretching to Juárez'sXELO-AM. The move to 750 allowed KAMA to stop being a daytimer and created a new station, KFNA, at 1060.
The station was sold to Tichenor Media, operator of longtime rival KBNA, in 1994. Tichenor merged into Heftel Broadcasting in 1997, changed name to Hispanic Broadcasting Corp in 2000, and merged into Univision Communications in 2003.
For a time, beginning in 2012, KAMA was the El Paso outlet for theUnivision America talk network,[4] a format later moved to sisterKQBU at 920 AM.
In 2016, Univision Radio exited El Paso by selling its stations to affiliates of Mexican radio broadcasterGrupo Radio Centro for $2 million, with GRC taking over operations via LMA on November 8.[5] Rafael Márquez, a United States citizen, owns 75 percent of the licensee, 97.5 Licensee TX, LLC, with the remainder being owned by Grupo Radio Centro TX, LLC.
As November 1, 2022, Pro Radio LLC took over the local programming and marketing agreement from Grupo Radio Centro TX.
In December 2024 97.5 Licensee TX, LLC. entered into an LMA with Big Bend Broadcasting for the translator K224FC-FM 92.7 MHz. and began to simulcast the holiday programming on KAMA-AM. On January 3, 2025 KAMA-AM removed the holiday programming and started broadcasting a Spanish AC format.
