KSOS (90.5MHz) is anon-commercial, listener-supportedradio station inLas Vegas, Nevada, broadcasting aChristian contemporary musicformat. It is owned by Faith Communications with offices and studios on South 6th Street offEast Sahara Avenue.[2] In addition to music, the station also carries several nationalChristian talk and teaching programs:Focus on the Family,Insight for Living with Chuck Swindoll andIn Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley.[3]

KSOS has aneffective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000watts, the maximum for most FM stations. Thetransmitter is on Mountain Tower Road inHenderson, amid thetowers for other Las Vegas-area FM and TV stations.[4] KSOS is theflagship station for theSounds of the Spirit Radio network.[5] Programming issimulcast on a chain ofrebroadcasting stations andFM translators.

History

The stationsigned on the air on July 18, 1972 (1972-07-18).[6] The originalcall sign was KILA and the station broadcast on 95.5 FM. Itscity of license was Henderson. It has always had aChristian radio format. It was a non-commercial station but it broadcast on acommercial frequency.

KILA switched frequencies on August 8, 1985, going from the commercial section of the FM dial to the section reserved for non-commercial stations. At that point, it began broadcasting on 90.5 FM with Las Vegas as its city of license.[7] The programming became known as "Sounds of the Spirit Radio" with management adding a chain of rebroadcasting stations andFM translators around theWestern United States. Reflecting its Sounds of the Spirit Radio name, KILA switched its call letters to KSOS in 2005.
