Julio César Cascante Solórzano (born 3 October 1993) is a Costa Rican professionalfootballer who plays as acentre-back forMajor League Soccer clubAustin FC.
Cascante started his career atOrión in 2011, before transferring toUCR for a three year stint. Cascante signed withSaprissa for the second half of the 2016 season, helping the team earn their 33rd league title. He also made five appearances in theCONCACAF Champions League during his time with Saprissa.[1]
After starting his career in his native Costa Rica, Cascante signed withMLS sidePortland Timbers on 2 January 2018.[2] Cascante helped the team return to theMLS Cup final before falling toAtlanta United 0–2.[3]
Cascante was traded fromPortland Timbers to MLS expansion sideAustin FC in exchange for $250,000 in general allocation money on December 13, 2020.[4] In April 2023, Austin FC extended Cascante's contract through the 2025 season, with a 1-year club option for 2026.[5]
Cascante was first called up for theCosta Rica national football team for the2015 Olympic qualifying.[6] Starting in 2023, Cascante became a regular on the Costa Rica national football team, making appearances infriendlies,[7]CONCACAF Nations League,[8] and2024 Copa América.[9]
