Judaization

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about a form of cultural assimilation and spatial policy. For the Christian movements that believe in the necessity of adherence to Jewish laws, seeJudaizers.

Judaization (Hebrew:ייהוד,Arabic:تهويد) orJudaification is the process of making somethingJewish in character. In the context ofZionism, it is often applied to theIsraeli expansion ofJewish settlement in areas with significantPalestinian populations, as in theJudaization of Jerusalem,[1][2][3]the Galilee, or theNegev.[4][5] In this context, it is related to de-Arabization.[6][7]

In his critique of Zionism, the British thinkerLeon Roth argued for a "Judaization of our politics" in response to what he perceived as a "politicization of Judaism" characterized byethno-nationalism and an almost racial notion ofJewishness.[8]
