Juan Pablo Añor Acosta (born 24 January 1994), commonly known asJuanpi, is a Venezuelan professionalfootballer who plays as anattacking midfielder forGreek Super League clubVolos.
He played 146 games and scored 11 goals forMálaga in Spain, in fourLa Liga seasons and three inSegunda División, while also playing on loan in the top flight forHuesca. He representedVenezuela at theCopa América in2016 and2019.
Born inCaracas, Juanpi joinedMálaga CF's youth system in 2009, aged 15, from hometown clubCaracas FC. He spent several seasons in theJuvenil squad and was promoted tothe reserves in the2013–14 campaign, appearing regularly inTercera División.[2]
Juanpi made his first-team – andLa Liga – debut on 29 August 2014,replacingLuis Alberto in the 75th minute of a 0–3 loss atValencia CF.[3] On 19 December he signed a new contract until 2018,[4] and scored his first professional goal on 6 January of the following year, netting the first in a 2−0Copa del Rey home win againstLevante UD.[5]
Juanpi scored his first league goal on 23 January 2016, netting the equalizer in a 1–2 home loss againstFC Barcelona.[6] Seven days later he added another, netting the first in a 2–1 win atSD Eibar,[7] and scored four goals duringthe campaign.
Juanpi switched from 28 tonumber 10 shirt ahead of the2016–17 campaign,[8] and scored theAndalusians' first goal of the competition, in a 1–1 home draw againstCA Osasuna.[9]
On 31 January 2019, Juanpi was loaned toSD Huesca in the top tier, until June.[10] He was released by Málaga on 3 October of the following year, along with seven other first team players, due to alayoff.[11]
On 11 October 2020, Juanpi was signed toAl-Ain FC in theSaudi Professional League.[12] He returned to Caracas FC on 27 June 2022.[13]
After appearing with theunder-17 team at the2011 South American Under-17 Championship, Juanpi was also a part ofthe squad selected for the2013 South American Youth Championship, hosted in Argentina. On 29 January 2013 he was also called up tothe main squad.[14]
Juanpi made his full international debut on 14 November 2014, replacingFrank Feltscher in the 58th minute of a 0–5 loss againstChile at theEstadio CAP inTalcahuano.[15] He played one game for theVinotinto at theCopa América Centenario in the United States, as a substitute in the 4–1 quarter-final loss toArgentina, and on 6 September 2016 he scored his first international goal to open a 2–2 home draw with the same opponent in2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.[16]
Juanpi was also called up for the2019 Copa América in Brazil. He played one match, a 3–1 win overBolivia inBelo Horizonte that advanced the team to the quarterfinals.[17]
Juanpi's father,Bernardo Añor, was also a footballer, as was his older brother, also namedBernardo. All three relatives played for Caracas.[18]
