Juan Pablo Di Pace (born 25 July 1979) is an Argentine actor. He began his career in the United Kingdom, performing in a number of musicals and appearing in films likeSurvival Island (2005) andMamma Mia! (2008). He later moved to Spain, starring in several television series from 2009 to 2012. In 2013, Di Pace moved to Los Angeles where he starred asNicolas Treviño in theTNT drama seriesDallas. And in 2014, he was cast as Jesus Christ in theNBC limited seriesA.D. The Bible Continues which earned him a Movieguide Award for Best Male Performance. From 2016 to 2020, he played the role ofKimmy Gibbler's estranged husband, Fernando, onFuller House, a spin-off series ofFull House. In 2024, Juan Pablo wrote, co-directed and starred in the filmDuino, his directorial debut feature alongside Andres P. Estrada (co-director) and executive produced byNorman Lear.
Di Pace was born inBuenos Aires, Argentina, and moved to Spain when he was twelve. He was raisedCatholic.[1] He lived in London for ten years.[2] He speaks fluent Spanish, Italian and English. At age 17, he was awarded a scholarship to attend theUnited World College of the Adriatic inDuino,Trieste, Italy, later studied theatre at theLondon Studio Centre and at theHB Studio in New York City.
Prior to joining the big screen, he played the role ofDanny Zuko in the Trieste production ofGrease in Italy, partly directed by Di Pace. In 2003, he appeared in the London production of theBob Fosse musicalChicago. For one year, he starred asTony Manero in the 2009–2010 Spanish production ofSaturday Night Fever in Madrid, with songs byThe Bee Gees, produced byStage Entertainment - which won him the title of "triple threat" by the European press. In 2011-12 he starred in the original Spanish production ofMás de 100 Mentiras produced by Drive Entertainment, based on the songs of Spanish legendJoaquin Sabina.[3] In 2017 he premiered his solo show in New York's 54 Below, which was nominated for Best "One Person Show"at theBroadway World Awards.
Di Pace has made several appearances on British television, such as theBBC One comedyThe Catherine Tate Show, BBC One filmAftersun, BBC One seriesNew Tricks andBBC Scotland soapRiver City, which he joined in 2005 playing the character ofLuca Rossi.[4] His on-screen debut was in the 2005 filmSurvival Island.[5] He is also featured inMamma Mia! (2008).
Di Pace also starred in the video for the 2004Eric Prydz hit "Call On Me". In the video, he is the only man amongst a group of women in anaerobics class. He also directed and starred in the sequelWhat a Feeling by Hughes Corporation in 2006, which is loosely based on dance sequences fromFlashdance andDirty Dancing. In 2008 he directed a music video forKatie Melua. In 2009, he appeared on the music videoTime Is Running Out byMuse.
Upon moving to Spain he played regular roles in TV series such asSupercharly,Angel o Demonio,Los Hombres de Paco,90-60-90, andEl Don de Alba. In 2011, he starred in the final season ofFísica o Química.
In 2013, Di Pace moved to the US and was cast as series regular billionaire businessmanNicolas Treviño for season 3 of the TNT drama seriesDallas.[6][7][8]
In 2014,Roma Downey andMark Burnett cast Juan Pablo as Jesus Christ in theNBC seriesA.D. The Bible Continues[1] which earned him a "Grace" Award at the 2016Movieguide Awards.[2]
In 2016, Di Pace appeared in a recurring role as Fernando, the fiancé and ex-husband of Kimmy Gibbler on the Netflix seriesFuller House.[9] Starting in the second season he was promoted to the main cast, playing the role for 5 seasons until the show's end in 2020.
In 2018, he was announced as one of the celebrities to compete onseason 27 ofDancing with the Stars, being paired with the professional dancerCheryl Burke.[10] Despite earning five perfect scores and holding the highest average of the season, they were eliminated in the semi-finals.Len Goodman along with judgesCarrie Ann Inaba andBruno Tonioli, expressed their outrage for the results. A frustrated Len said, "I know the Americans, we like fair play but mostly we like justice. And there's no justice here."[3] Fans of the TV show deemed Juan Pablo's premature exit "ridiculous," an "injustice" and "not acceptable."[4]
in 2024, Di Pace wrote, starred and produced his debut feature filmDuino[5] (formerly known as "For Another Time") executive produced byNorman Lear andBrent Miller (producer),[6] and co-directed by Andres P. Estrada -editor ofArgentina, 1985, the 2022Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.[7].Duino premiered in the US atFrameline Film Festival and won "Best International Feature" atRio LGBTQIA+ Festival Internacional de Cinema.
Di Pacecame out publicly asgay in March 2019 while giving aTEDx talk at theUnited World College Maastricht in The Netherlands called "The Story of Your Life".
